In questo libro Edith Bruck, Paola Mastrocola, Plinio Perilli, Maria Luisa Spaziani e Sergio Zavoli riflettono sul significato profondo di appartenenza alla Patria. Nelle loro poesie la Patria è Madre Terra che ci forma attraverso i suoi profumi, i suoi colori, le sue bellezza, la sua lingua. Ma è anche Madre Matrigna che ha costretto generazioni di connazionali alla fuga, all’esodo e all’esilio, creando storia cultura e fortuna in Stati lontani mille miglia dalla Madre Patria. La Patria è quella storica del nostro Risorgimento, fatta di eroi e gente comune. Una Patria perduta e senza pace, ma simbolo di fratellanza, comunanza e solidarietà umana. È Terra Promessa, luogo di immigrazione e d’elezione, ma spesso indeterminata, illimitata e sfuggente. Il libro, pubblicato e tradotto in inglese in collaborazione e con il sostegno della Direzione Generale per le Biblioteche, gli Istituti culturali e il Diritto d’autore, Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, si inserisce nell’ambito del Festival Internazionale Divinamente Roma e Divinamente New York 2011 diretto da Pamela Villoresi e legato alle celebrazioni dei 150 anni dell’Unità d’Italia. In this book Edith Bruck, Paola Mastrocola, Plinio Perilli, Maria Luisa Spaziani and Sergio Zavoli reflect on the true meaning of people’s sense of national identity. In their poetry the Nation is the Mother Earth whose fragrances, colours, beauty and language makes us who we are. But she is also a Stepmother who turned generations of fellow citizens into emigrants and refugees, forcing them to flee in search of a new life, culture and fortune in countries thousands of miles away from their Motherland. Heroes and common people were behind the making of the Nation during the Italian Risorgimento. A lost, troubled motherland, but also a symbol of brotherhood, commonality and human solidarity. It is the Promised Land, a place of immigration and choice, but often indecisive, indefinite and ambiguous. The book has been published and translated into English in collaboration with, and financed by, the Directorate General for Libraries, Cultural Institutions and Author’s Rights of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities. It will be presented at the International Festival Divinamente Roma and Divinamente New York 2011, organised by Pamela Villoresi, as part of the celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of the Unity of Italy.
